A local mother used her step-daughter as a slave and prevented her from finding her one true love.
In the last week of October at Baldor Street, it was discovered that a young girl was being abused by her step-mother, who used her as a slave. The young girl's rich father, George Smith, mysteriously died a couple weeks after marrying Priscilla Jones. Since his death, Priscilla has been forcing her new step-daughter, Julie Smith, age 18, to work for her as a slave. This horrible step-mother also tried to keep Miss Smith at home while she and her two other daughter attended the biggest event of the year, The Grand Ball. Julie Smith went anyway by sneaking out. She caught the attention of the prince, although she left early to get home before Priscilla. She accidentally left her slipper. Priscilla, knowing the girl had snuck out, locked her in room when the prince came looking for her. As Pricilla said, "She is of no use to the prince, nor does she deserve royalty. She is in her place here." Police are looking into the matter to see if laws are being broken in this case or if Miss Smith's rights are being denied.
